General.

What age range do you accept?

We welcome children from birth to five years old across all of our 14 nurseries in the North West.

What are your opening hours?

Our standard nursery day runs from 7:30am to 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. Some settings open at 7:00am or offer extended hours. Contact your chosen nursery for exact times.

Do you accept funded children?

Yes. MiChild accepts all funded places. Depending on your circumstances and your child’s age, you may be entitled to up to 30 hours of funded childcare per week for working families, or 15 hours of universal entitlement for all three and four-year-olds. Funding begins the term after your child reaches the qualifying age. To check your eligibility, visit beststartinlife.gov.uk/eligibility-checker or speak to your
nursery manager.

Getting Started.

How does the settling-in process work?

We ask for a minimum of five settling sessions, gradually increasing in length as your child becomes comfortable. You will meet the nursery manager and your child’s key person, complete an ‘All About Me’ document, and be fully supported throughout the process. At least one session takes place at mealtime so you can see how food is managed.

Health And Safety.

Are all staff first aid trained?

Yes. All staff complete paediatric first aid training, and we exceed the legal minimum requirement by providing an additional online refresher every year on top of the mandatory 12-hour face-to-face course.

What is your sleep policy?

We follow each child’s individual sleep routine and work closely with parents to ensure consistency between home and nursery. For babies and younger children, sleep times are monitored closely and recorded. We always follow your child’s lead and your family’s preferences.

Do staff ever work alone with children?

No. Our safeguarding policies ensure that staff never work alone with children. There are always a minimum of two practitioners in every room, and our ratios meet or exceed the requirements set out in the EYFS.

Curriculum And Learning.

What is the MiChild Matters framework?

MiChild Matters is our bespoke child development framework, built around six pillars of learning. It is written in a child’s voice and provides achievable, age-appropriate goals. Visit our Learning page for a full explanation of each pillar.

What qualifications do your staff have?

Our teams include qualified practitioners at Level 3 and above, supported by apprentices working towards their qualifications. Our Quality and Early Years Manager delivers face-to-face training across all settings through our MiLearning Lounge programme.

Practical.

What are the staff-to-child ratios?

We follow the ratios set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage: 1:3 for babies (under 2), 1:5 for toddlers (age 2), and 1:8 for preschool children (age 3 and above).
