Not just in terms of the quality of care, though that matters enormously, but in terms of how we treat our people, how we show up for families, and what kind of organisation we are in the communities where we operate. Between us, we have over 45 years of experience in Early Years. We've seen a lot of what the sector looks like at its best, and we know what it looks like when the focus drifts. Our values at MiChild; Passionate, Caring, Professional, Inclusive and Trustworthy, aren't words on a wall. They're the standard we hold ourselves to, every day, across all fourteen of our nurseries. But if you asked me what really sets us apart from other providers, it's this: the way we look after our people. We are a family, and we work hard to know our staff and our families as individuals, because taking the time to genuinely know people is what breeds a strong culture. So how do we do it? We are visible. We are in our nurseries. We speak to our staff and our families, and we take the time. I honestly believe that is our USP. Benefits are great as headline catchers, but sometimes it's the small things that matter most, the 'thank you' here, the 'how are you now?' there. It is also about listening to our teams, hearing what they want and making sure their voice is genuinely heard, so that together we can shape MiChild into an even better team and company. Because we all have the same focus: we are here for our children. For our people, doing the right thing means investing in them properly and treating them with the dignity that their work deserves. It means an 80% childcare discount so that the people providing childcare can actually afford childcare. It means paid compassionate leave, because we understand that our team members are whole human beings with lives and losses outside of nursery. It means milestone birthday days off, an extra day of annual leave for every year of service, Christmas week off, wellness days and wellbeing drop-in sessions. And it means the MiLearning Lounge and our apprenticeship programmes, because a team that is learning and growing is a team that stays. For families, doing the right thing means being honest, transparent and consistent. It means making sure every child, regardless of background or ability, is genuinely welcome. It means nurseries rated Good by Ofsted, not as a box to tick but as a reflection of the standard of care our families deserve. It means a curriculum, MiChild Matters, that is thoughtful, bespoke and rooted in the best of current early years thinking, giving every child the best possible start through six pillars of development that see the whole child. For our communities, doing the right thing means being present and being rooted. We're a group of nurseries in Blackpool and the Fylde Coast, Greater Manchester and Cheshire, places we are genuinely part of, where our staff live and our families live and where we want to make a real and lasting difference. We won Best Community Nursery at the NMT Awards in 2023, and that recognition speaks to something we care about deeply: the idea that a nursery should be part of the fabric of its neighbourhood, not just a building on the high street. Being a Top 20 UK Day Nurseries provider six years running, from 2021 to 2026, tells us we're getting some things right. Winning NMT Nursery Personality of the Year in 2024 was humbling. But what drives us isn't the recognition, it's the privilege of educating the children who spend their formative years with us. To the families who trust us. To the practitioners who choose to build their careers here. That privilege doesn't feel like a burden. It feels like the point. It's why we get up every morning and why this job, after everything, still feels like a privilege. We'll keep doing the right thing.
